While it seems like Germany have a potential embarrassment of riches in the frontcourt when it comes to young and emerging players, the backcourt is not quite as promising.

One notable exception is Lucca Staiger.

He caused quite a stir when he quit NCAA team Iowa State earlier this year in favour of an early move to the pro-game in his homeland with Alba Berlin.

An outrageously talented shooter, he shone during his college career although was boxed into a rather one dimensional role a little too much for his liking.

As someone who can also light it up with his passing ability, his move to Berlin was seen as an opportunity to expand his game.

However, he struggled to gain court-time despite Alba having a poor season by their high standards and now everyone is waiting to see how Staiger reacts after an interesting season to say the least.

He is likely to still get decent court time from Coach Bauermann since players with his pure shooting ability don’t come along too often.

He showed glimpses at EuroBasket 2009 that he isn’t overawed by playing at National Team level and as an added bonus, knows what it means to play tenacious defence
